Weekly news for 27.8.23

Dear Friends

Here’s your Bank Holiday news

A little word

And immediately the girl got up and began to walk about (she was twelve years of age). At this they were overcome with amazement. He strictly ordered them that no one should know this                                                                                                                                                                                                 Mark 5.42-43 (NRSV)

In the first half of Mark’s gospel Jesus keeps telling people to not let on who he is. The scholars call it the Marken Secret. It may be a writing technique, so that we the readers want to shout at the characters in the story, ‘haven’t you got it yet?’ Perhaps it’s ironic? The whole town has come out to mourn the loss of Jairus’ daughter (he is the local synagogue leader). When they see her walking around, they’ll know she’s not dead! Some things are such good news you can’t keep them to yourself. Do you feel that way about Jesus?

Things to pray for

  • Give thanks for the amazingly good news of Jesus.
  • For relaxation and family time over the bank holiday weekend.
  • For the churches ministry to families with weddings, baptisms, and funerals.

Mission Action Planning

MAPPING our Way

The Diocese has produced another MAP booklet – standing for Mission Action Planning. On Saturday 23 September, at 9.30, in Church.

We are going to meet for an intensive couple of hours to look at it and use it as a way of inspiring and guiding thoughts about our mission as a church. This is open to all of the church, and we’d encourage you to come along and share the process.

The MAP booklet can be found here:

It would help to have an indication of who is coming – can you message or email Huw (huwthomas75@googlemail.com) if you plan to be there?
