Dear Friends,
Here are some notices about what is coming up in the next few weeks.
A little word
‘When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who comes from the Father, he will testify on my behalf. You also are to testify because you have been with me from the beginning. But I have said these things to you so that when their hour comes you may remember that I told you about them. John 15.26-27 (NRSV)
This week we celebrate the start of Gods church with the coming of Gods spirit. I always find Pentecost a wonderful reminder of the hope which we carry as Gods people, “the church”. What was born at Pentecost was a hope which people could catch hold of which was different and, dare I say, exciting. The Spirit, is the one who will testify to the reality of the person of Jesus. It was more than a reassurance for Jesus’s nearest and dearest that there will be something to reminder him by. It was going to be an active empowerment which, as we see from Jesus baptism, enables and provides. I also like to imagine how as the spirit rested on people, and God’s church grew, the fruits of the spirit became more evident in peoples lives as a testimony in itself to the person of Jesus. That hope that seemed almost contagious for the first believer’s is the same hope we offer and share today. Let’s be encouraged this Pentecost and thank God for the gift of his Spirit.
Things to pray for
- For God’s spirit to be evident in our lives over the coming days and weeks.
- For the spirit to empower the church throughout the world to fight against injustice.
- For Pip and Ali and family as they celebrate their daughter Grace’s wedding this weekend.
