Weekly news update for 26.5.24

Dear Friends,

Here are some notices about what is coming up in the next few weeks.

A little word

Faith in Christ Jesus is what makes each of you equal with each other, whether you are a Jew or a Greek, a slave or a free person, a man or a woman. So if you belong to Christ, you are now part of Abraham’s family, and you will be given what God has promised. Galatians 3.28-29 (CEV)

Abraham’s family means the family of faith. Jesus makes it radically inclusive. All of the divisions, represented by the physical make-up of the temple, zones of segregation, are removed. Nationality, race, gender, social class; all are irrelevant. Faith is what matters; faith in Jesus. The Church has not always got it right in the past. All are welcome.

Things to pray for

  • Give thanks that there are no barriers to acceptance by God.
  • For families and school staff, that they might have a great 1/2 term holiday.
  • For our nation as we enter a run-up to a General Election.

We are excited to welcome Harry Baker back to Christ Church Pitsmoor on Tuesday 25th June at 7:30pm. He brings his new tour, Wonderful:

“After a sellout Edinburgh Fringe Run and subsequent 40-date UK Tour, World Poetry Slam Champion Harry Baker is back with a brand new show celebrating the wonder that is being alive. Featuring brand new poems about death, postcodes and his favourite German wheat bear Schöfferhofer, The maths-loving, TED-talking, German-speaking, battle-rapping, happy-crying, self-bio-writing unashamed human brings his signature playfulness and poignancy that has made him a fan favourite and reached millions of people all over the world.”

Will’s Ordination

Will’s ordination to the priesthood will be on Saturday 29 June at 4pm at Sheffield Cathedral. If you know you want to attend let Will know as there are some ticketed seats available. (There should be room for everyone we just can’t guarantee you a posh seat!)

On Sunday 30 June, when we welcome our friends from St Peter’s, it will be Will’s first celebration of Holy Communion. We will have lunch together afterwards – full details nearer the time.
