Dear friends,
Here is the news for this week.
A little word
For this child I prayed; and the Lord has granted me the petition that I made to him. Therefore I have lent him to the Lord; as long as he lives, he is given to the Lord. 1 Samuel 1.27-28 (NRSV)
On Mothering Sunday we often have the story of the birth of Moses, Jochebed was his mum, or of Samuel, Hannah was his mum. In both stories there is a sense of letting go. Moses was put in the care of Pharoah’s daughter, Samuel was at an early age sent to the temple under Eli’s care. Both boys grew up to be leaders of God’s people. They along with Samson’s mum (unnamed) and Elizabeth, mum to John the Baptist, saw their children as a gift from God, not to be owned, but to dedicate to His service. Learning to love and let go is one of the most rewarding and also hardest things about motherhood. We owe them all a debt of gratitude.
Things to pray for
- Give thanks for our mother’s and all those who have had a significant role in nurturing and shaping us.
- For the ongoing conflict in the middle east and its repercussions around the world.
- For our PCC as they have several important meetings in the coming weeks.

Annual Meeting preparations
The APCM is on 10 May after the morning service.
The Electoral Roll is open for revision. If you are not on it, you need to complete a form. If you are not sure, ask, to check. The revision window closes on 19 April until after the APCM.
Elections. There are lots of opportunities to serve on the PCC this year (especially as the tasks will need to be spread during the upcoming vacancy), We need to elect 2x Churchwarden, 2x Deputy Churchwarden, 2x Deanery Synod reps, up to 8 PCC members (this is the three for this year plus 5 unfilled from previous years). Some of our existing PCC members whose terms are ending will be glad to continue but that will still leave gaps to fill. It seems a long way off, but don’t leave it to the last minute to see if people will be willing to stand.
What’s on?
Tuesday – Lent group at St Peters 12noon.
Wednesday – Lent group in Holroyd Room, 7.30pm.
Thursday – Holy Communion at 10am followed by refreshments and Lunch Club. In the Welcome Centre.
