Weekly news for 21.4.24

Dear Friends,

Remember our APCM is after the service on Sunday.

A little word

You are a building that is built on the apostles and prophets. They are the foundation. Christ Jesus himself is the most important stone in the building. The whole building is held together by him. It rises to become a holy temple because it belongs to the Lord. And because you belong to him, you too are being built together. You are being made into a house where God lives through his Spirit. Ephesians 2.20-22 (NIRV)

The Church is seen as permanent and solid (probably because of the buildings) but in a real sense each individual Church is only one generation from collapse. What I mean by this is us, as members, are temporary fixtures. We come and we go, we are born and we die. We carry the torch or baton from the previous generation and we pass it on to the next. If that chain is broken, then disaster beckons. Thankfully there is the whole extra dimension of the Holy Spirit living in us and through us. But if we are not willing to play our part, to be built together, where does that leave us?

Things to pray for

  • Give thanks for all the previous generations that have built upon the foundation of Jesus in Pitsmoor.
  • For all those serving and about to serve our church community in all its activities and tasks.
  • For our new Associate Archdeacon, Mike Gilbert, being licensed on Sunday.

Annual Church Meeting – 21 April after the service

Our meeting is this week.

All of the papers are available electronically here https://www.pitsmoor.church/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/APCM-2024-papers.pdf or in paper format at the back of church.

There are elections for two Churchwardens and two Dep. Churchwardens. No-one retires from the PCC this year, but there is still one vacancy available to be filled. Nomination papers need to be completed and are available on the Welcome Desk.

We desperately need someone to take on the role of Treasurer. Computer literacy and numeracy skills are needed but full training and support is available. We also need a new PCC secretary, accurate note taking and computer literacy are what is needed. Again full support will be given.

Could you serve our church in this way?

Cursillo Retreat

Cursillo is ‘A movement of the Church providing a method by which Christians are empowered to grow through prayer, study and action and enabled to share God’s love with everyone.’ The Cursillo weekend is held at Wilson Carlisle Centre and are led by a team of lay people and clergy, who have all experienced a Cursillo weekend themselves. During the weekend participants (known as Cursillistas) will live, worship and learn together. Talks will be given by the leaders on some of the main areas of Christian life and faith. Also throughout the weekend there are group workshops, times of prayer and quiet reflection. The next weekend will be 10th – 12th May and bookings are now open. A few people from Christ Church have been on a weekend before and I am sure would be happy to talk about their experience. Will Gowers is going to be one of the Spiritual Directors on the weekend and has been a participant a few years ago as well. For more information or to get a booking form speak to Will or Yvonne.
