Dear Friends,
I hope you are enjoying the glorious weather, do look at the lovely flowers in the Churchyard.
A little word
Ananias answered, ‘Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much evil he has done to your saints in Jerusalem; and here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who invoke your name.’ But the Lord said to him, ‘Go, for he is an instrument whom I have chosen to bring my name before Gentiles and kings and before the people of Israel; Acts 9.13-15 (NRSV)
This is part of the story of the conversion of Paul (Saul). Paul has been blinded. Ananias, one of the believers in Damascus, has had a vision telling him to meet Saul of Tarsus. His reply, above, is along the lines of ‘I think you’ve got this wrong, Lord! Do you know who he is?’ To his credit Ananias responds, accepting God’s plan, he calls him ‘brother’ when he meets Saul. It reminds me that no-one is beyond God’s call. It also reminds me that I underestimate what God can do, and that I need to be less sceptical and more open-minded.
Things to pray for
- Give thanks for God’s ability to soften the hardest of hearts.
- For our upcoming annual meeting, and people willing to serve.
- For those seeking God’s direction as they appoint a new Archbishop of Canterbury and Pope.
