Dear friends,
Here is this week’s news. This week we continue our series in Philippians reflecting on Joyful Discipleship. It is also our joint service where we will be worshipping with our friends from St Peters.
A little word
Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, for I know that through your prayers and God’s provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ what has happened to me will turn out for my salvation. I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. Philippians 1: 18b-20
Even in prison, Paul continues to find joy. Although we can read these letters and assume Paul was in a state of happiness, what Paul is holding onto is a deeper sense of joy not found in his current circumstances. He rejoices at how the church is praying for him. There is comfort and strength found in prayer. Paul longs to have the courage to continue his work for God’s Kingdom, and for that, he relies on the prayers of the church and the gift of the Holy Spirit to aid him in his task. We recently had Pentecost and reflected on the Spirit of Jesus coming and empowering the followers of Jesus to continue Jesus’ ministry on earth. May we be people who find courage, like Paul, because of the prayers we pray and the empowerment we receive from the Holy Spirit. And may this bring us joy.
Things to pray for
- For peace in the Middle East due to the ongoig conflicts.
- For all the different community activities which go on throughout the week.
- For those who are currently suffering in mind, body or spirit. That they may experience Jesus’ joy.

Lunch Club
Our volunteers are having a well needed break and therefore lunch club isn’t on next week but will restart again on Thursday 10th July. Our volunteers work very hard during the week and on a Thursday to make lunch club happen, and we are so grateful for the setting up, driving the minibus, sorting out the money, cooking, serving and clean up they all do. Thankyou!
Cafe Church needs you!
Cafe Church happens on the first Sunday of the month. There are a number of different roles which we are looking for people to help with and set up a rota. If you could help set up the church with the tables and chairs, serve refreshments or help put the rows of chairs out again do let us know.
Abbeyfield Festival
This is on the afternoon of 13 July. We are having a stall with info. If you could spare an hour to be on the stall or bake some cookies to give away then please volunteer to Vanessa Droz.
