Weekly news for 12 October 2025

Dear friends,

We’ve had great times at our Community Week events. Come along this weekend for the Coffee Morning, Songs of Praise and Bring & Share lunch, and invite someone to join you.

A little word

Let the message about Christ live among you like a rich treasure. Teach and correct one another wisely. Teach one another by singing psalms and hymns and songs from the Spirit. Sing to God with thanks in your hearts. Colossians 3.16 (NIrV)

There is something about singing that lodges in our brains. I can sing along from memory to all sorts of songs, including ones I don’t like! The words stick in a way that prose or even poetry don’t. That can be really helpful and fun but I’m sure we’ve almost all caught ourselves singing along to something, where when we think about it, we don’t agree with what the song says at all.

That’s why some denominations don’t sing! We might alter the word of God! Lots of songs would struggle to pass a theology test frankly, but the tunes can be so catchy. Hopefully what we have chosen for us on Sunday morning are ‘sound’, but we will hopefully also find out why they are special. A song can take us back to a place or time or emotion. There is also something about being in a room of people singing in unison. I hope you enjoy it.

Things to pray for

  • Give thanks for the gifts of music and song.
  • For our local councillors
  • For the real hope that a corner might be being turned in Gaza and Israel.

How ethical is your energy supplier?

Last Sunday we thought about ways we could invest in Kingdom values with our purchases. Our energy bills have an effect on the climate too. If you want to investigate this further, Octopus are offering a £50 donation to the church if you move to them and you get a £50 credit too. Use the link below to get a quote. You will need to decide if this is right for you, and of course there are other providers offering carbon free/renewable tariffs. Pip is happy to talk if you want to know more.
