Weekly news for 17.9.23

Dear Friends

Please read the important update from Sara this week and pray.

A little word

But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!                             Amos 5: 24

Bishop Pete spoke on these words at the Eco-Church Celebration in the Cathedral last Saturday. Amos tells the people God’s challenge; all your religious stuff is useless unless you are living the right way! An ancient version of ‘If you talk the talk you’ve gotta walk the walk’.

Our care for the planet, and our neighbours who inhabit it with us, is that walking the walk. The CofE has made ambitious plans to become carbon neutral; that can’t be achieved if we are not on board as congregations and individually. Our teaching this month is centred around these themes too.

We were recognised as a bronze award Eco-Church. I would love to be able to achieve a silver award by this time next year. To that end we need a new Eco-Church Champion. If you are passionate about helping us to achieve that I’d love to talk to you.

Things to pray for

  • Give thanks for those who challenge us to live out our faith.
  • For Sara & Bill and their family.
  • For Stay & Play after the encouraging re-launch last week.

Mission Action Planning

MAPPING our Way

The Diocese has produced another MAP booklet – standing for Mission Action Planning. On Saturday 23 September, at 9.30, in Church.

We are going to meet for an intensive couple of hours to look at it and use it as a way of inspiring and guiding thoughts about our mission as a church. This is open to all of the church, and we’d encourage you to come along and share the process.

The MAP booklet can be found here:

https://www.sheffield.anglican.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/MAP-2023-for-screen-viewing.pdf

It would help to have an indication of who is coming – can you message or email Huw (huwthomas75@googlemail.com) if you plan to be there?
