Dear friends,
Here is the news for this week.
A little word
For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we had been eyewitnesses of his majesty. 2 Peter 1.16 (NRSV)
The scriptures are written by human hands, but we believe, divinely inspired. Two of the gospels are attributed to disciples who were there as Jesus spoke and walked, and the other two have a sense of repeating what eye witnesses have told them. And similarly some of the letters. Here Peter writes to reassure his readers of the authenticity of his account. I was there, I saw it, I heard it, I’m not making it up, this is not a hoax. At the end of the day we all have to make up our own minds, but many people who were not there, notably Paul, also testify to a revelation from God, a meeting with Christ. As you hear the scriptures may you too be encouraged that you are hearing God’s word for you.
Things to pray for
- Give thanks for all those who have kept the scriptures available and accessible for all to hear.
- For stability in our government and a focus on serving us all.
- For all involved in places of education as they enjoy a 1/2 term break.

This Week’s Headlines
Lent
Lent will soon be upon us. We start with a service of Holy Communion on Ash Wednesday, 18 Feb, at 7pm. This year our Lent groups will meet in the week There are two options: Tuesdays at 12noon at St Peter’s or Wednesdays at 7.30pm in the Holroyd Room. These groups start 24/25 Feb. We will be thinking about The Tree of Life, a resource written by Bill Goodman..
Matina
Matina was only with us for two months and has now been moved on. She wanted me to express her thanks…. ‘Seeing how kind, warm, and loving the brothers and sisters are has really made me feel that even though we don’t speak the same language, because we share faith in the Lord, it feels like being with family.’ Our prayer is that her new place will be as welcoming. Thank you to everyone who has helped.
With grateful thanks
Some of you will remember Michael Tomkeieff who died five years ago. Michael left us some money in his will and I am pleased and rather humbled to report that we have received £100,000! The PCC will be thinking about how we might use this amazing gift.
Diocesan Safeguarding Audit
The Diocese takes safeguarding seriously and part of that is to invite an independent body to conduct an audit. Anyone can contribute to the surveys so that the auditors can get as full a picture as possible prior to their visit. We are committed to hearing the truth and changing in the light of that.
Details for both the surveys and for contacting the audit team are available through the INEQE website here: ineqe.com/churchofengland/sheffield. The surveys are now live and will close at 11.30pm on Wednesday 11 March 2026.
If you have difficulty accessing online and have something to offer talk to Nick or Pip so that we can help you.
