Dear friends,
Here is the news for this week.
A little word
All kings shall fall down before him; all nations shall do him service. For he shall deliver the poor that cry out, the needy and those who have no helper. He shall have pity on the weak and poor; he shall preserve the lives of the needy. Psalm 72.11-13 (CW)
Christ the King (the last Sunday before Advent) is when we think of Jesus in majesty, enthroned on high. But as this Psalm reminds us, he is a King, but not as we know it. Leaders around the world, historically and even now, love their pomp and ceremony. They dish out honours, and curry favours. King Jesus raises up the poor and needy and looks out for those whom others ignore. If only we all led like Jesus!
Things to pray for
- Give thanks for those who raise up the poor and call the powerful to account.
- For our PCC and leaders.
- For the COP talks; that commitments to fairness, common sense and climate justice would be the winners.
