Weekly news for 10.8.25

Dear friends,

On Sunday we continue in the Psalms.

A little word

All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that the person of God may be proficient, equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3.16-17 (NRSV)

As we looked at one of the ‘nice’ Psalms last week, I reminded us that some of them are difficult and challenging too, as is much of scripture! Huw will guide us through a tricky one this week. Personally I find it helpful to ask myself, ‘Why is this here?’ when I read challenging passages. St. Paul suggests his friend Timothy should find them useful, sometimes as inspiration to follow, sometimes as examples to avoid, sometimes to shake us from our mediocrity and slumber, and raise our expectations! What we shouldn’t do is just avoid them.

Things to pray for

  • Give thanks for the way God’s word can still speak to us today.
  • For those discerning who is called to be the new Archbishop of Canterbury, and for that person.
  • For all those celebrating weddings this summer.
