Weekly news for 2.2.25

Dear Friends,

Here is the news for the coming week. This week we kick off Café Church, we hope you can join us, and will enjoy it. We are really excited about this new venture.

A little word

25 Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; this man was righteous and devout… and the Holy Spirit rested on him. Guided by the Spirit, Simeon … took Jesus in his arms and praised God, saying,
‘… my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel.’ Luke 2.25-32 selected (NRSV)

On Sunday lots in the Church will remember Anna and Simeon, two old folk, who met the infant Jesus. Guided by the Holy Spirit they recognised Jesus for who he was, and told everyone who would listen. They were witnesses to the light that came for everyone. Our task is similar. Receive Christ’s light, Walk in Christ’s light, Reflect Christ’s light. As Will reminded us last Sunday that is not always easy, and offered these words from the ordination service, that you might like to pray around.

You cannot bear the weight of this calling in your own strength, but only by the grace and power of God. Pray therefore that your heart may daily be enlarged and your understanding of the Scriptures enlightened. Pray earnestly for the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Things to pray for

  • Give thanks for all those who shine as lights for Christ.
  • For the Church of England, and especially those who have been victims of failures in adequate Safeguarding.
  • For Café Church as it launches, and all our work among families and young people.

Café Church

This week we are launching a Café Church style service. This will replace our current 1st Sunday of the month all-age worship slot. Our hope is this new style of worship will help us in our worship together as a church family. There will be refreshments throughout, and the church will be set up in the style of a café. Over the next few months as we try out Café Church, we would love to hear your thoughts and feedback. Flyers are available to give to people who might be interested. If you have any questions or want to find out more speak to Will or email him on will@pitsmoor.church.
