Weekly news for 5.1.25

Dear Friends,

Happy New Year everyone!

A little word

May all kings bow down to him and all nations serve him. For he will deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no one to help. He will take pity on the weak and the needy and save the needy from death. Psalm 72.11-13 (NIV)

Over the next few weeks, during Epiphany, we think about how Jesus is revealed. This week we think about the arrival of wise visitors from the East, more likely astrologers than kings. The poor and vulnerable infant Jesus is visited by the rich and powerful. It gives a glimpse at the future, where Jesus, modest in human terms with no assets or armies, would frustrate the establishment with his talk of making the weak strong and the first last. It is a lesson all in positions of power even today would be wise to pay attention to.

Things to pray for

  • Give thanks for the marvel of God’s care for those the world ignores.
  • For schools, groups, and activities restarting after the Christmas break.
  • For all the resolutions made to improve our lives and the world.
