Dear Friends,
We are now meeting in the Welcome Centre for everything as the Church refurbishment continues.
A little word
Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 (NRSV)
There have been times I have read verses in scripture about not worrying and thought ‘well it’s easier said than done!’. If we are not carful, we could think that any form of worry of anxiety is therefore bad or even a failure. I don’t think that is what God requires of us. I find great comfort in reading these verses as God not wanting us to worry on our own. There can be an aspect of worrying which is isolating and it can be easy to feel hopeless. Instead, God invites us to not worry on our own, but bring him into the situations in our lives and the burdens of our heart. By doing this, we don’t just feel peaceful in a way of confining in a close friend. We feel the very peace of God which surpasses all understanding. This may not be an instant relief from our present situations, but a chance for us to posture ourselves towards hope instead of anxiety.
Things to pray for
- For the times we experience worry and anxiety and that we may feel a sense of the peace of God.
- For conflicts across the world and impact this has had and continues to have on peoples lives.
- For those who have recently been bereaved.

This Week’s Headlines
Current Bishop of Doncaster, Sophie Jelley, to become next Bishop of Coventry
The Bishop of Doncaster, the Rt Revd Sophie Jelley, has been officially announced as the next Diocesan Bishop of the Diocese of Coventry. Bishop Sophie said:
“Reflecting on nearly five years in Sheffield Diocese, I am deeply grateful for the support and warmth of this community, especially through the challenges of the pandemic. Starting episcopal ministry behind a screen was far from ideal, yet your generosity quickly made Sheffield feel like home. It will be a big wrench to leave Sheffield, but I am confident that in accepting this new role, I am following God’s call. Serving as Sponsoring Bishop and Chair of the Board of Education has been a real privilege. As I prepare to move on to Coventry Diocese, I will take so many of the lessons learned here with me and I know that it will be a great honour to serve the people there, with its rich diversity and opportunities. The move won’t begin until next year and for now I would greatly value your prayers and assure you of mine, as Sheffield Diocese continues its strategic growth and outreach.”

Closure of Church for renovations
There is now no access to the Church. The Welcome Centre remains in use and as well as the usual weekday activities we will be meeting ‘upstairs’ on Sundays. If you are going to have access issues with the slope please talk to us, the lift remains in operation and we will do our best to work out a way to get you safely in the building.
The work is progressing well. Here is a picture of the painted roof from the top of the scaffold platform. This week the electricians have also made a start on the new lighting.

A quiet service, in our usual 7pm slot, to remember and give thanks for those we have lost. It might be particularly helpful to those who have been bereaved in the last year or so, do invite anyone you know, and offer to come with them. Everyone is welcome.
