Weekly News 30.06.24

Dear Friends,

Here is the update for this week.

A little word

So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.Galatians 3:26-27 (NIV)

I love the joy, peace and celebration often present at a baptism service. It is one of my favourite services to be part of and rejoicing with the candidates who, in front of family and friends, are declaring their faith in Jesus and his way of life. Sacraments are often described as a mystery. There is something mysterious in the way we are able to be joined with Christ in his death and resurrection, through God’s spirit. The same can be said for Holy Communion. Baptism being an induction into our life of discipleship, Holy Communion being a God given gift which sustains us. There are different views on what happens during Holy Communion but a common agreement is it is an outward sign of an inward grace. By partaking in the sacrament of Baptism and Holy Communion, we are enriched as we receive God’s Grace as a gift for us, through his son Jesus Christ.

Things to pray for

  • For all those preparing to be baptised or considering baptism.
  • For all those who are going to be ordained over the weekend.
  • For our nation as we prepare for the general election.

The next couple of weeks there will be no Lunch Club or Craft and Chat as many people are away.

Food Hygiene Award

We are so grateful for all of those who help prepare food for our various community emails. We are especially grateful to those who have taken different food hygiene certificates. We have been awarded a level 5 in our food hygiene. It is a testament to the work which goes in the maintaining the kitchen and keeping in a safe and healthy place for our community! Thank you to all involved!

Fundraiser

We have now created a fundraiser on ‘Just Giving’ to help with our fundraising efforts towards phase 2 of our building repairs. The link is below. Please so share it with anyone who may want to contribute towards it. Also do continue to pray for the building repairs, especially the financial provision and the logistics of the works to be undertaken.

Harry Baker

It was lovely to welcome back Harry Baker to Christ Church Pitsmoor last Tuesday. The church was full of people with a lot of effort put in to making the event a success. Harry was keen to help the event be a fundraiser for us for the second phase of the building work and we managed to raise £250 to go towards our building repairs! It was great to see the new contactless machine in good use!

Will’s Ordination

Will’s ordination to the priesthood will be on Saturday 29 June at 4pm at Sheffield Cathedral. You are would be more than welcome to attend. If you did request a ticket, there is no physical tickets and you won’t have to show anything, you just need to tell a steward which parish you are from when you arrive at the cathedral. If you haven’t got your name down for a ticket to the service, there will be plenty of room to find a seat anyway. It would be lovely to see you there!

On Sunday 30 June, when we welcome our friends from St Peter’s, it will be Will’s first celebration of Holy Communion. After the service we will be having a Bring & Share lunch together in the Welcome Centre. Please bring along with you a savoury or sweet (or both!) food items to share. If you are unable to bring something you are still very welcome to share lunch with us and enjoy our fellowship together.
