Weekly news for 15.8.21

Dear Friends

Do please also check in with the facebook page www.facebook.com/ccpitsmoor/   and website  www.pitsmoor.church/  during the week as things do change!

A little word

And these are the ones sown on the good soil: they hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirty and sixty and a hundredfold.                                                                                                                                      Mark 4.20

These words of Jesus come at the end of the explanation of the parable of the Sower. We sometimes refer to it as the parable of the seeds or the soils, each brings a different nuance.

The point is that hearing the word of God (Jesus himself according to the gospel of John), has to firstly change us, and secondly make us fruitful. It needs to be passed on and not huddled around. We receive it to give it away. May it be so.

Things to pray for

  • Give thanks for the life-changing potential of God’s word.
  • for students and pupils making decisions in the light of exam results.
  • for Pete Hetherington’s family and friends as we gather for his funeral on Wednesday

Services

In-Church worship Sunday at 10am. Service of Holy Communion WITH SINGING – continuing with our theme of Love & Community.

Face coverings please and be especially conscious of how some people will still want to be cautious.

You can also watch by live-stream on the church facebook page

This week’s reading is: Acts 2. 43-47

Thinking of this Sundays’ reading from Acts 2, we are going to do prayers a little differently. As you go into Church there will be a pad of sticky notes. Please write anything you would like us to pray for on a sticky note and pop it in the basket next to it. If you would like us to pray for something but can’t be there in person, please let Sara know at sara@pitsmoor.church

We are going to continue with our current Sunday morning pattern at 10am through September too. We don’t want to be changing constantly. Once the schools are back the children’s work will restart also. We will review it again for the Autumn during Sept.

Holiday Club

Praise God: for such a great Childrens’ holiday Club. It was SO good to see our COGs ‘for real’ again. Thank you for your support Carers; thank you the great team of leaders and helpers and Vanessa from St Peters’ who headed it up, and…… thank you all you COGs for coming!

Please pray for us as we recruit a new team of Children of God leaders, and Joanne who will head it up.

We will be thinking about ways forwards with our children’s work next Thursday (19/8) in the Vicarage at 7pm. All parents and all those with a heart for children we warmly welcome.

Prayer Day – 18/9

  • to give thanks?
  • to reflect on our priorities?
  • To simply be a quiet space where we can spend time with God after all the upheaval and trauma of the last eighteen months.

We’re looking at 18 September, 10am – 3pm. If anyone would like to be involved in planning and doing, please let Karen or Sara know.
