Weekly news for 4.8.24

Dear Friends,

Here is the update for this week.

A little word

Then from the cloud came a voice that said, ‘This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!’  Luke 9.35 (NRSV)

The transfiguration is remembered this week. Jesus goes up a mountain with Peter, James and John. At the top he is met by Moses and Elijah (representing the law and the prophets). A voice comes (like at Jesus’ baptism), a voice of reassurance for Jesus as he enters the crucial road to Jerusalem, and of instruction for the disciples. There are so many competing voices we hear daily. We need the help of the Holy Spirit to filter out the unhelpful or false voices and tune in to the voice of Jesus.

Things to pray for

  • Give thanks for the times we hear the voice of Jesus loud and clear, and for the desire to follow it.
  • For the grieving community of Southport.
  • We pray against those who seek to hijack tragedy to divide people and spread intolerance.

Summer Services

Now the schools have broken up, we are in our Summer series. Instead of a ‘sermon’ we will have an interview, where we get to know better some of the faces we see at the front, and learn a bit of their story and what motivates them. I hope you enjoy it.

This week is our Vicar, Pip.
