Dear Friends,
Please see below news for the coming week.
A little word
Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Acts 2.2-4 (NIV)
I don’t think the disciples would have every been prepared for what happened as they were tarrying for the Spirit. As they faithfully waited as Jesus asked them to do, I imagine they were not aware of the significance of the Spirit’s coming. Last week we considered how God is a God who moves. The association with ‘God’s movements’ often leads people to reflect on the person of the The Holy Spirt. At Pentecost the church was empowered to be Christ’s witnesses throughout the whole world. In whatever time, place or context they are called to be. Some Christian’s will tarry now for the Spirit and attribute significant moments to ‘God moving’. No matter how we view it, it is a history making moment for the church.
Things to pray for
- Give thanks for the gift of God’s Spirit empowering the church
- For the users of our church building and the great activities which serve our community.
- For moments throughout this week where we might notice God’s Spirit within us, others and the world.
