Dear Friends
We are back!!! or will be. With a big effort on Saturday, we can be back in our church building for Sunday.
A little word
As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night
will never cease. Genesis 8.22
This is God’s promise to Noah after the flood. It is written in the narrative as if God is thinking out loud, so the promise is personal made by and for God. Almost a ‘note to self’. It appears that despite humankind’s ability to mess up the planet, God has made it in a way that is resilient and healing if only we will give it a chance.
That wonderful way of being fruitful and beautiful is what we celebrate at harvest with profound thanks. Being back in Christ Church this week gives us a chance to be doubly thankful. I hope to see you there.
Things to pray for
- Give thanks for the beauty and fruitfulness of the earth
- For all who knew and loved David Middleton, as we gather on Tuesday.
- For the victims of recent natural disasters.
Services
All – age Harvest Service in Christ Church at 10am.
We all gather together with grateful hearts to celebrate our return and the Harvest.
This week’s readings are: Luke 12.16-30
Refreshments to follow.
We are collecting for the Burngreave Food Bank. They would be especially grateful for pasta, vegetable soup, baked beans and tinned tomatoes, tinned meat and fish, and long- life milk.
Sunday at 6pm.
No reflective services yet.
10am on Thursday
Holy Communion will continue at Pitsmoor Methodist Church (corner of Christ Church Road and Burngreave Rd) followed by coffee. Lunch Club has restarted, roll up from 11.30 if you haven’t come earlier. We expect to be back at Christ Church in a few weeks when the lift is fixed.
Tidy up work party this Saturday
Please come along this Saturday (1/10) from 10am to help get the Church ready for Sunday. There are plenty of jobs to do, light and heavy, to help sort out and put things back in the right places.
Autumn Confirmation
There is a Deanery Confirmation service pencilled in for 6 November for us to host. If you are interested in finding out more, please let Pip or Sara know by the end of Sunday.
CCP Churchyard Autumn Clear-up
Autumn leaves, the smell of rich earth, laughter, and hot drinks! You are warmly invited to such on Friday 7th or Saturday 8th of October Starting at 10.00, finishing 12.00.
Please sign up for the day you can come and ‘bag’ any of the jobs on the to-do list. The list will be on display in Church, or I can email it to you if you prefer. If you can’t make the days, you are welcome to bag a job, and do it whenever you can – thanks!
Also, please bring your own tools – including gloves and any large pots – it would be great to dig up our saplings and pass them onto tree planting initiatives.
Church family news
David Middleton died peacefully surrounded by his family. Please remember Josie in your prayers. His funeral is planned for 2pm on Tuesday 4 October in Christ Church.
Community Climate Talk
Sheffield Hallam University, S1 1WB. Tuesday 11 October, 6.45-8.30pm, hosted by XR Sheffield.
Keeping up
The church building is back up and running from Sunday. It will be at least another week r two before other groups are back in the Welcome Centre, and the lift will be a couple of weeks more.
In church there are some compromises. Plastic chairs until we can order permanent replacements, and the organ clean will be a little while. We are just glad to be back!
Reminders of contact details:
Maureen is off sick at the moment, please pray for her.
