Weekly news for 18.7.21

Dear Friends

We now know the ‘rules’ are gone, but guidance is shortly forthcoming about how we can meet. Until we get that (hopefully by Monday) we cannot confirm what changes and when we will make to our current practise. Please be patient!

Do please also check in with the facebook page www.facebook.com/ccpitsmoor/   and website  www.pitsmoor.church/  during the week as things do change!

A little word

for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous. Matt 5.45

Today (Thurs) is St. Swithun’s day. He was a ninth century Bishop of Winchester who asked to be buried humbly. 100yrs later a new Bishop built a great Cathedral and had Swithun dug up and put in a fancy shrine. It rained for 40 days. Farmers still often say that if it rains on this day it will rain for 40! If you want some extra homework there is a Billy Bragg song called ‘St Swithuns day’ that’s worth a listen, or the film ‘One day’ which revolves around today over many years.

The reading from Matt is one set for today. Its point is that God treats us all impartially. If we think we are extra special or above others we have missed understood it all. We are all special to God and are his children. End of.

Holy Communion in Church

Churchyard

When could you come and be part of a gang having fun getting the Church yard into some kind of order? Early evenings for a couple of weeks? A Saturday?

Last summer our Church yard tidies were some of the best bits of fellowship of lock- down. But, whilst one or two areas are looking great- thank you those people who have put work and creativity into our Church yard recently- this year we just aren’t keeping on top of it, and it is not being a good advert for CCP.

The problem is, we don’t have our older stalwarts to rely on any- more and trying to get the cash- strapped Council to help isn’t working either…. So: let me know soon when you can help… cause the longer we leave it, the harder it will be!

Love Sara =)

Prayer Day

  • to give thanks?
  • to reflect on our priorities?
  • To simply be a quiet space where we can spend time with God after all the upheaval and trauma of the last eighteen months.

We’re looking at September. If anyone would like to be involved in planning and doing, please let Karen or Sara know.
