Weekly news for 29.11.20

Dear Friends

Here is the latest news, do please also check in with the facebook page www.facebook.com/ccpitsmoor/   and website  www.pitsmoor.church/  during the week as things do change!

A little word

I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in him.                                                                                                       Psalm 40.1-3

We were part way through Lent when lockdown kicked in. And now we start, Advent not quite sure how it will evolve before Christmas. It will certainly aid the advent themes of waiting and longing! We’ve been doing this so long now I can’t remember if I’ve used this Psalm before or not. It is a Psalm of hope. A movement from the slimy pit to the firm rock. Whatever news the PM brings we know our longing will be fulfilled, is fulfilled, in Jesus; God with us, God amongst us

Things to pray for

  • Give thanks for bright Autumn days & the wonderful colours around us
  • For all waiting for delayed operations and treatment
  • for refugees longing to be able to return home

Use of Church

We are now shut again for the four weeks of national lockdown. As soon as we have details of what is allowed under the new tiers, we will post it. It seems likely that we can restart physical church on 6 Dec.

When the going gets tough, the tough get creative

We have so far come up with lots of fun ideas to keep in touch across the congregation. Do let us know if you would like to join/organize any of them or you have more ideas of your own.

Advent opportunities
An Advent Calendar of thoughts. During each day of December head to our facebook page or website for a daily message on the themes of waiting, hoping, longing, and expecting. They will be more satisfying than chocolate and less fattening!

Light in the Darkness

A four- part Advent Course reflecting on our experiences in this strange year in the light of Scripture.

Link: https://www.lightsforchrist.uk/lightinthedarkness

The theme for the first Session is ‘Distance,’

followed by ‘Safe,’ ‘Trust’ and ‘Normal.’

A group of us are going to be looking at it together on                                           Wednesday evenings 7.15 to 8.30. You will be very welcome!                                                                                         (If possible, look at the material before you come on the link above, but this isn’t essential.)

Even if you can’t manage to come to the group, it is still really worthwhile doing the course by yourself.
