Weekly news for 15.11.20

Dear Friends

Here is the latest news, do please also check in with the facebook page www.facebook.com/ccpitsmoor/   and website  www.pitsmoor.church/  during the week as things do change!

A little word

For he is the living God, enduring for ever. His kingdom shall never be destroyed, and his dominion has no end. Daniel 6.26

You might be forgiven for thinking these were the words from a Psalm. They come from the end of the story of Daniel in the lions’ den. A pagan ruler wrote to all peoples in his vast empire to make this declaration when he had witnessed the faithfulness of Daniel and the delivering nature of God. Daniel, a captive in a foreign land, held true to all he believed in, despite the consequences. You may have heard that phrase ‘Dare to be a Daniel’, actually, because he understood what King Darius later proclaimed, it was less about daring and more about simply living out what he knew to be true.

Use of Church

We are now shut again for the four weeks of national lockdown.

From the pastoral team

Buddies: whilst we can’t meet in person, it would be really good to still meet across Church as well as in our own friendship groups. Do let us know if you feel you could give and receive some encouragement from a buddy sometimes.

Also, we are still open to organizing a weekly zoom coffee morning, or organizing a group interested in going for a walk with another person.

Just a reminder as the days get darker:

listening ears are available if there is a day you just need someone to chat to: – ring Sara or Kate to be connected to someone.

there is a prayer chain if you, or someone you know, are poorly, going into hospital, or needs some prayer for whatever reason.

For any of the above, ring Sara 07591411950 (Mon, Thurs, Fri or Sunday) or Kate, 07743378972

Lastly, a Morning and evening prayer group meets in WhatsApp each day. Contact Sue 07783055650 or Yvonne 07749 66223 if you would like to be added to it.

A Call to Pray in the month of November
The Archbishops of Canterbury and York, have issued a call to pray throughout this renewed period of lockdown and you can find it here

https://www.churchofengland.org/more/media-centre/coronavirus-covid-19-guidance-churches/call-prayer-nation

You are invited to pause at 6pm (that is, just as the darkness deepens every evening) to pray for our nation and for the Light of Christ to shine upon it. The hope is that many of us will commit to a daily discipline, for the full 28 days of the lockdown, from Thursday 5 November to Wednesday 2 December.
