Weekly news for 03/05/26

Dear friends,

A little word

Last Thursday evening, Harry Baker performed in front of 300 people, filling the church from front to back and left to right. As I arrived to help set up earlier in the evening, I walked up the path past all of the beautiful flowers. The sun was shining, and it felt like there was a lot of “life”. It reminded me of the good news that Jesus brings to us:

“I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10)

It isn’t always easy to feel like we’re living an “abundant” life. Sometimes, life is hard. But Jesus offers us a path that guides us towards a different perspective. The Easter story, fresh in our memories, embodies that message.

A message from Pip & Ali

We received a lovely card from Pip and Ali in their new home. We hope they are enjoying retirement! They said:

Dear friends at Christ Church,

Thank you so much for all your love and prayers and well wishes and gifts and cards.

We are getting on top of the boxes and mostly unpacked now.

I’m hoping to start some work on the garden soon and so we will find a nice place for our Yorkshire rose. We’ll treat ourselves to something nice that will remind us of you all.

Thanks again, with fondest love,

Pip & Ali

Coming up

Annual Meeting

The APCM is next Sunday 10th May at 11.30am after the morning service.

The electoral roll is now closed – thank you to everyone who submitted their forms.

Election forms are now available at the back of church for nominations to PCC and other positions. The available posts are:

  • 2 x Churchwardens
  • 2 x Deputy Churchwardens (please note this is the same form as church warden)
  • 2 x Deanery Synod reps
  • 8 x PCC members (this is the three for this year plus 5 unfilled from previous years).

Some of our existing PCC members will be glad to continue but there are still gaps to fill. If you’d like to get involved and help navigate Christ Church through this time of change, please step up! Nomination forms need to be submitted ahead of the APCM on 10th May.

If you have any questions please email office@pitsmoor.church

Confirmations at Sheffield Cathedral

Confirmation is a part of the Church of England’s way of being a Christian. It’s the special church service in which a person confirms their baptism promises and commits their life to following Jesus Christ. The bishop then lays his or her hands on your head and ask God’s Holy Spirit to give you the strength and commitment to live God’s way for the rest of your life. It’s a great service – very moving and one you can invite others to, if you wish.

Condfirmation is preceded by a short series of meetings that prepare us for that service and the Christian commitment involved. They tend to be informal discussions and take about four sessions of one hour each.

We have the opportunity to join with the confirmation service at the Cathedral on 19th July.
