Dear friends,
Here is the news for this week. I hope you can join us on Sunday, I’m looking forward to the Bring and Share meal after the service. Oh, and don’t forget the clocks change on Saturday night.
A little word
The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone. Psalm 118.22 (CW)
To (mis)quote Mr Spock from Star Trek fame ‘He’s a King (Jim), but not as we know it.’ As we move from the high of Palm Sunday to the low of Good Friday and the high again of Easter; we recognise the misconceptions and fickleness of the crowd; the tendency to only see what we want to see; and to become disappointed and disillusioned when things don’t go the way we wish. Jesus came full of Messianic expectation, but the people misunderstood what that meant. In God’s upside down Kingdom things are turned around. And so the rejected stone becomes the foundation from which the whole enterprise is built. I am always a little cautious of people who (apparently) know exactly what God thinks. I have learned over the years that God is a god of surprises. And Holy Week tells me that writ large.
Things to pray for
- Give thanks for he ability God has to surprise us.
- For Holy Week services around the world, as a witness to the power of forgiveness and new life.
- For peace to reign as we remember the ultimate defeat of evil.

Annual Meeting preparations
The APCM is on 10 May after the morning service.
The Electoral Roll is open for revision. If you are not on it, you need to complete a form. If you are not sure, ask, to check. The revision window closes on 19 April until after the APCM.
Elections. There are lots of opportunities to serve on the PCC this year (especially as the tasks will need to be spread during the upcoming vacancy), We need to elect 2x Churchwarden, 2x Deputy Churchwarden, 2x Deanery Synod reps, up to 8 PCC members (this is the three for this year plus 5 unfilled from previous years). Some of our existing PCC members whose terms are ending will be glad to continue but that will still leave gaps to fill. It seems a long way off, but don’t leave it to the last minute to see if people will be willing to stand.
Congratulations to Will
After a thorough appointment process, the Bishop of Sheffield is pleased to announce, pending the usual pre-employment checks, the appointment of the Revd Will Gowers to oversee the revitalisation project, as Priest in Charge of the Benefice of St Nicholas Bradfield and Oversight Minister.
