Weekly news for 22.3.26

Dear friends,

Here is the news for this week.

A little word

My Spirit will give you breath, and you will live again. I will bring you home, and you will know that I have kept my promise. I, the Lord, have spoken. Ezekiel 37.14(CEV)

This is one of those weeks where we are spoilt for choice with our Sunday readings. Chris will be preaching on the raising of Lazarus, but the Old Testament reading is Ezekiel in the valley of dry bones. Ezekiel encounters desolation and lifelessness, but God says all is not lost. There is still hope. The breath/wind/Spirit of God gives bodies and life to the bones and the promise above. Sometimes the world can feel like a valley of dry bones where all is lost. I can’t even begin to imagine what life in Iran and its neighbours feels like at the moment. But the message coming at Easter is one of hope and so all is not lost. Can these bones live? God knows!

Things to pray for

  • Give thanks for all those who remind us of hope in the dark and difficult times.
  • For the formal installation of Sarah Mullally as Archbishop of Canterbury on Wednesday.
  • For Pye Bank School, Yr.6 visit the church this week.

Annual Meeting preparations

The APCM is on 10 May after the morning service.

The Electoral Roll is open for revision. If you are not on it, you need to complete a form. If you are not sure, ask, to check. The revision window closes on 19 April until after the APCM.

Elections. There are lots of opportunities to serve on the PCC this year (especially as the tasks will need to be spread during the upcoming vacancy), We need to elect 2x Churchwarden, 2x Deputy Churchwarden, 2x Deanery Synod reps, up to 8 PCC members (this is the three for this year plus 5 unfilled from previous years). Some of our existing PCC members whose terms are ending will be glad to continue but that will still leave gaps to fill. It seems a long way off, but don’t leave it to the last minute to see if people will be willing to stand.

Congratulations to Will

After a thorough appointment process, the Bishop of Sheffield is pleased to announce, pending the usual pre-employment checks, the appointment of the Revd Will Gowers to oversee the revitalisation project, as Priest in Charge of the Benefice of St Nicholas Bradfield and Oversight Minister.
