Dear friends,
Here is the news for this week.
A little word
I lift up my eyes to the hills; from where is my help to come? My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth. Psalm 121.1-2 (CW)
A theme that has come up several times already during Lent is dependence upon God. We saw it last week in the temptations of Jesus, at Midweek communion it was ask, seek, knock. Here in this Sunday’s Psalm it is about trusting God when you feel anxious or scared, (the hills are places where bandits hide out, similar to the Good Samaritan parable). If we let it, anxiety can paralyse us, it is all about keeping perspective. As Billy Bragg puts it in a song, we should focus on the things of beauty and not on ‘the million things that never happened at all’ or as Jesus puts it ‘Do not worry… look at the birds of the air.. see how the flowers grow….’ May this Lent be a time where we all have an increasing awareness of where to place our hope and trust.
Things to pray for
- Give thanks for all those times we have seen and experienced help from God.
- For those who suffer from anxiety and those who support them.
- For the places in the world crying out ‘from where is my help to come?’

This Week’s Headlines
Lent
This year our Lent groups will meet in the week. There are two options: Tuesdays at 12noon at St Peter’s or Wednesdays at 7.30pm in the Holroyd Room. We will be thinking about The Tree of Life, a resource written by Bill Goodman..
Diocesan Safeguarding Audit
The Diocese takes safeguarding seriously and part of that is to invite an independent body to conduct an audit. Anyone can contribute to the surveys so that the auditors can get as full a picture as possible prior to their visit. We are committed to hearing the truth and changing in the light of that.
Details for both the surveys and for contacting the audit team are available through the INEQE website here: ineqe.com/churchofengland/sheffield. The surveys are now live and will close at 11.30pm on Wednesday 11 March 2026.
If you have difficulty accessing online and have something to offer talk to Nick or Pip so that we can help you.
