Weekly news for 22.6.25

Dear friends,

This week we have Baptisms at church! It would be great to see you there.

A little word

14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16

As part of the baptism service, we give a candle to the candidates as a reminder that they are to be lights for Christ in the world. Light is meant to be something which is seen and noticed. The smallest amount of light can transform the darkest of places. At baptism, candidates step into a new life with Jesus, having made promises before God and the people present. In doing so they are invited to step into the calling which God calls us all the baptised to, to be lights to those around us so that God may be glorified. In baptism candidates are joined with Christ, through his spirit. The same spirit which raised Jesus from the dead, which empowers, comforts and restores. If you’re baptised perhaps use this week to reflect on your own baptismal vows and the way you are, and can be, lights for Christ. If you’re not baptised, perhaps use this week as an invitation to reflect on what you need in your walk of faith to bring you closer to God.

Things to pray for

  • For Daniel, and Tiago and his family as they come for the baptisms on Sunday.
  • For all those baptised to be encouraged as lights for Christ
  • For those who are currently suffering in mind, body or spirit. That they may experience Jesus’ joy.

This Week’s Headlines

Baptisms this Sunday!

This Sunday we have two baptisms. Daniel Norton is getting baptised who has been part of our family for the last year. As well as, Tiago, whose father Patrick used to come to Christ Church youth club and has a strong connection with the church. It will be great to see you here this Sunday at 10:30am to celebrate with them both. The service is an all age service and should be lots of fun!

Administrator and Hall Manager

We are delighted that Sarah Sharp, our new Administrator and Hall Manager, has started. Sarah will work Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings. You can contact her at office@pitsmoor.church

Lunch Club

Our volunteers are having a well needed break and therefore lunch club isn’t on for the next two weeks but will restart again on Thursday 10th July. Our volunteers work very hard during the week and on a Thursday to make lunch club happen, and we are so grateful for the setting up, driving the minibus, sorting out the money, cooking, serving and clean up they all do. Thankyou!

The Lord’s Prayer Tour – Sheffield Cathedral

Join in with the Archbishop of York for an Evening of Prayer, Reflection, and Inspiration. Starting at 7pm, the event held at Sheffield Cathedral will feature music, film and a powerful teaching session led by the Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell. There will also be an opportunity for a Q&A, offering a chance to reflect and ask questions. The hope is that this evening at Sheffield Cathedral will ignite a deeper understanding of The Lord’s Prayer and leave you inspired to tell your own story of faith.

Cafe Church needs you!

Cafe Church happens on the first Sunday of the month. There are a number of different roles which we are looking for people to help with and set up a rota. If you could help set up the church with the tables and chairs, serve refreshments or help put the rows of chairs out again do let us know.

Abbeyfield Festival

This is on the afternoon of 13 July. We are having a stall with info. If you could spare an hour to be on the stall or bake some cookies to give away then please volunteer to Vanessa Droz.
