Weekly news for 31.7.22

Dear Friends

It is nice to be back. Thanks to everyone who organised things whilst I was on holiday.

We are currently juggling quite a few things around so do remember to check in to our facebook page or the website regularly for updates.

A little word

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.By this everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one another.”                                                 John 13.34-35

Love should be the hallmark of everything that we do and everything that we are. It should be noticeable to others. I wonder if that is what others notice about us?

During august we will be thinking about love; for Jesus, for family, for neighbour and its very special character.

As the bishops from around the world gather for the Lambeth Conference, they need our prayers. There will be disagreements, no doubt, but I think it is possible to genuinely love someone without always agreeing with them. May it be productive and an example to all of us of Christ like love.

Things to pray for

  • Give thanks for the love of God, felt in us, and radiated by us.
  • For the gathering of Bishops at the Lambeth Conference.
  • For the smooth progress of the clear up in our building.

Services

Sunday at 10am. Loving Jesus

This week’s reading is:  Luke 7.36-50

A shorter gathering with Holy Communion in the Church Yard as a visible demonstration that we are still here. You might want to bring something to sit on. If it is going to be too difficult for you then join with one of our other local congregations.

During August we will be meeting in the house at Abbeyfield Park. Fuller details will be given next week.

Sunday at 7pm.

No reflective services in July & August.

10am on Thursday

Holy Communion will continue through the summer at Pitsmoor Methodist Church (corner of Christ Church Road and Burngreave Rd) followed by coffee.

Keeping up

The church building (including the Welcome Centre) is closed and must not be accessed without permission. There are now people working on site which is encouraging.

When there is more certain news, we will let you know, but we expect to be out of the building for a little while yet. Hopefully, we might be able to start using at least part of the building before September is out, but no promises at this stage.
