Weekly news for 23.10.22

Dear Friends

Here is a brief news update for this week.

A little word

When the king of Israel read the letter, he …said, ‘…Just look and see how he is trying to pick a quarrel with me.’

But when Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, he sent a message to the king, ‘Why have you torn your clothes? Let him come to me, that he may learn that there is a prophet in Israel.’                                 2 Kings 5.7-8

The story of the healing of Naaman came up in this week’s readings. It’s a fascinating story full of so much; the faithful witness of an unnamed servant girl, a timid King, a pompous General, a Prophet with no airs and graces and a dishonest servant. It’s worth a read.

The little bit above it the contrast between a scared King who sees everything as a problem and a Prophet who sees it as an opportunity. A foreign enemy shown the grace of God has a profound effect, but only because Elisha had vision. Does our timidity sometimes frustrate the grace of God?

Things to pray for

  • Give thanks for bold expressions of God’s grace.
  • For schools and families in this ½ term week.
  • For our nation, as another Prime Minister is sought.

If you are a keyholder, please check with Pip or Maureen before coming in. There have been some key and Alarm Code changes.

In church there are some compromises. Plastic chairs until we can order permanent replacements, and the organ clean will be a little while. We are just glad to be back!
