Weekly news for 21.8.22

Dear Friends

We continue to meet at Abbeyfield House in the Park. This week there is a picnic to stay on for.

We are currently juggling quite a few things around so do remember to check in to our facebook page or the website regularly for updates.

A little word

Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.                                                 1 John 4.8

We finish our little mini-series on Love this week with Chris & Sara helping to open up that beautiful hymn to love in 1 Corinthians 13.

Love is an important theme in the bible. The word comes up around 700 times (depending on which translation). As we have thought it can be love of family or neighbour. It can mean intimacy with a partner. It can mean our response to God and, of course, how he speaks and reaches out to us.

As John puts it, above in his letter, Love is a verb and a noun. God is Love. Without love we cannot know God.

What makes the world go around? Love, actually.

Things to pray for

  • Give thanks for love. Given and received.
  • For a world where we can understand each other better.
  • For young people making decisions in the light of exam results.

Services

Sunday at 10am, meeting at Abbeyfield House. Love that lasts.

This week’s reading is:  1 Corinthians 13.

Refreshments to follow. Byo picnic and stay on after the service this week.

As we are back in a building, we can now resume collections, thanks.

A reminder that next week (28/8) our service will be a joint service at St. Peter’s at 10.30am. It will be Holy Communion.

September will see us continuing to meet in the house at Abbeyfield Park. We will be restarting CoGs too. If you are driving, park on Abbeyfield Road by the Park entrance. We will use the main door, which has a couple of steps up to it. If you need to use the level access round the back let us know.

The toilet has a couple of steps down to it.

If accessibility is likely to be an issue for you, we will do our best to help. An alternative is to worship with St Peter’s Ellesmere, who start at 10.30am.

Sunday at 7pm.

No reflective services in July & August.

10am on Thursday

Holy Communion will continue through the summer at Pitsmoor Methodist Church (corner of Christ Church Road and Burngreave Rd) followed by coffee.

Coming up

Church yard. Sara will be chopping and weeding and glad of company, 10-12 on Friday 9 September.

Keeping up

The church building (including the Welcome Centre) is closed and must not be accessed without permission. There are now people working on site which is encouraging.

When there is more certain news, we will let you know, but we expect to be out of the building for a little while yet. Hopefully, we might be able to start using the building again in October, but no promises at this stage.
