Weekly news for 21.2.21

Dear Friends

It’s still not too late to join the Lent course on Wednesday.

Do please also check in with the facebook page www.facebook.com/ccpitsmoor/   and website  www.pitsmoor.church/  during the week as things do change!

A little word

He must increase, but I must decrease.                          John 3.30

These words of John the Baptist came up in the readings this week. They seemed to me like a good moto for lent. The season reminds us of our fragility, our need for forgiveness and our mortality. Him increasing and us decreasing is not about self-condemnation but rather about recognising where our help comes from.

I picture John as being exhausted from holding the fort and he can see the cavalry coming and so he knows it is time to bow out as superior relief comes. But he does it not with sadness but joy. To paraphrase slightly his own words, he is the best man rejoicing as he hears his friend the bridegroom marry his beloved.

As we work along through lent the Easter dawn glows on the horizon. Help is on its way.

Things to pray for

  • Give thanks for the joy of knowing true forgiveness.
  • For a greater sense of our worldwide inter connectedness.
  • For all those seeking to gain godliness with contentment this lent
